I got pregnant when I had been on birth control pills for 11 years. I did not have any pregnancy symptoms. I found out I was pregnant at my regularly scheduled yearly physical. I had not missed a period, although the one I had right before my physical was a little lighter and shorter than usual. I had been having some stomach pains whenever I ate and had some indigestion, which I had never had before. My doctor thought I might have Irritable Bowel Syndrome until she did my pelvic exam. She said my cervix felt like I was pregnant and we both chuckled over that. I was 38 years old and my children were 17, 15, and 12 at the time. She said we'd have to find out what was causing my cervix to feel that way and we'd start with the easiest thing to rule out. So, she sent me to pee in a cup. To everyone's surprise, the urine test came back positive for pregnancy. My doctor said it was likely just a false positive. She said my cervix felt 12-14 weeks along and if I was pregnant we should be able to hear a heartbeat. She got the Doppler expecting we wouldn't hear anything, but we were just dumb-founded to hear a tiny little heartbeat clear as a bell. We had no way to tell for sure how far along I was so I had an ultrasound later that week. In total shock we found out I was already 17 weeks along. I never experienced nausea which I had a lot of with my first 3 pregnancies. I also lost weight, but then was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes which explained that.
