as quickly as I hear human beings say Israel is the only democracy interior the midsection east, I might desire to snicker at their lack of know-how. Israel is an extremely present day eu/American Apartheid settler venture occupying the country of yet another human beings, and saved artificially alive with the might of yank armed forces skill. Iran is the only democracy interior the midsection east. Iran is seen by way of many between the cradles of civilization with a custom and historic previous hundreds of years old. they have judicial, government and legislative branches. They % a president each and every 4 years (sound known?) they have a spectacular chief that's elected and oversees the judiciary. The legislative branch has 290 contributors, elected for 4-year words.

I find it all but ironic that we, as the US, want all others to have democracy in their government form, yet we are a Republic. And, from what I have seen, the only things that truly get represented lately are big corporations and their money. I am not a happy camper right now. I see, step by step, our rights eroding down a sea of fear. I don't know who to be more fearful of...terrorists or our government at this point. It has come to the point that any and/or all of us can be dragged from our house, locked up for an indefinent amount of time without any representation, without stated reason, and imprisoned without so much as a trial...merely on suspicion! I see a national debt of 10 TRILLION dollars building on air (8 TRILLION dollars more than 7 years ago) and to pay this debt of, EVERY man, woman, and child would have to fork over 28,000.00 US dollars to pay to zero! This debt is coming home now in the form of a US dollar crashing on the international market. The Euro and Yen are going to go through the ceiling (already on their way) and inflation can not help but follow. I can barely balance a check book, but even I know that I cannot spend more than I take in without serious results! All of this has been going on for 7 years now, and people have been remarkably quiet about it..more so than at any time I can remember. Personally, I am filled with fear for our future. When I see the numbers of hired military under the guise of "personal security" (Blackwater, alone, is astounding), how far are we from overthrow! I know many here will laugh at my statements as dramatic, but they are not dramatic, they are simply statements of fact. If you don't believe me,then do a little research, your computer is right there in front of you. Good luck, and peace....Goldwing

It may be the idea, but you know yourself, that this country has sidestepped pretty much all of this in favor of what our lawmakers are paid by the lobbyists to vote for. It does not represent the majority. Whereas, in a totally democratic society, it would never have even been thought about. We, of the grassroots brigade, have had our eyes opened again in the past few years on several really important subjects. More and more are joining us and we will get our voices heard, it's happening.
As for SCOOTER, I say, get a life, get real and start to enjoy! You're wasting time.

The truth ...is the truth....is the truth. Sometimes the minority is wrong...sometimes the majority is wrong. Sometimes one person is right and all the others are wrong. But I know what you mean. Each person having an opinion...gradually groups together and make a group (majority or minority). Within those groups are individuals....probably all "forcing " (or trying to force) their beliefs on others. This one single person somehow gets left out in the cold. I could be wrong...just thought I'd throw my 2 cents worth in. (Brrrrrrrrrr) lol

As usual , Goldwing is right on every point . I can't really add much ,being from north of your border but our dollar is now at par with the US dollar and we can't quite figure out yet why everything here costs so much more than in the US. We pay twenty thousand and up,more for a new car! People have tried to buy from a US dealer and are told they are not allowed to sell to Canadians, Talk about your conspiracies!

"Democracy describes a small number of related forms of government. The fundamental features of democracies include government based on majority rule and the consent of the governed, the existence of free and fair elections, the protection of political minorities, respect for basic human rights, equality before the law, due process, and political pluralism". - at least so definitions say.
There are usually two types of democracy: pure and representative...our country [USA] appears to be the latter imo.
In a representative democracy sovereignty is exercised by a subset of the people, elected periodically, but otherwise free to advance their own agendas.
