The only tool to accurately tell you the battery's state of charge is a volt meter. A fully charged battery should read 12.85 volts. The only thing you can do in a hurry is clean and tighten all the battery terminals and jump start the car. With the motor running you should see 13.5 - 14.0 volts at the battery terminals with a volt meter set at 20 volts. If the voltage is not within this range the alternator is suspect.

moisture will not cause the battery to fail. if it quit again after being charged it probably has some dead cells in it or is shorted internally. i would take it to an auto parts store that will test it while still in the car. call first. some do not do it. they will also check the charging system in case there is a problem there. if there is an advanced auto store near you, they usually do it.
good luck

nope, the battery will not hold a charge after driving, go to the auto parts store and have it tested. If it is ok, its your alternator.

no rain will not affect how the battery would work. sounds like you have bad cells if it was half dead? but also check your connections make sure they are tight.

after getting it started....disconnect the positive battery cable...if it still runs...then it is the battery. most likely a bad cell.
