Nature implies the genetic make up that we are born with. Nurture is our response to the genetics as well as to the other forces that we come in contact with during our lives. I argue that it is an individual matter. Some people (or animals) are born with overwhelming genetic issues that make nature the over riding influence in their lives. Others are born with a more average genetic composition, and are therefore more influenced by their surroundings. If this is a test or essay question, you may want to come up with some examples to support this thesis. I might choose comparing the effects of cystic fibrosis on someone's life versus the effects of being born in Darfur for two extreme examples to make my point.

Nature sets the starting conditions, and relates to the physical, chemical and electrical arrangement of a person.

Nurture will "adjust" your psychological responses (initial response will briefly be based entirely on nature) within the framework set-out by nature. i.e. A naturally intelligent person nurtured in an academic environment will thrive, whereas a naturally low-intelligence person will also thrive, but will not reach the same level as the former.

You can't really say one is more important, they both have rather necessary roles to play.

Why is this question being posed in Geology. It sounds a lot like Biology.

When this question is posed, it usually assumes the individual exists. But that is not stated. So for the existence of any individual the genetic code is most important, and that is definitely NATURE. As for behavior, that probably depends a lot on the individual.

I think both are important, but I do lean more towards nuture. I think most people's genetic tendencies can be amplified or controlled depending on the type of upbringing they have.

This question is better suited for the psychology section. Not Geology.
