Would a Talent Agency in Michigan be able to get me another agent in New York? I want to audition for Soaps.

I have a lot of experience doing indie & student films and have been casted as the lead in the majority of them. I'm very confident and ready to take it to the next level. Michigan does not have much more to offer me. I would love to move to New York. I've been dreaming of moving there forever but realistically it is expensive unless I moved to a dangerous area. I could afford to fly to New York if there were auditions. Possibly fly back for another. Definitely fly there if they offered me a job.

Okay, I'll narrow it down...could a Michigan talent agent get me an audition for a soap in New York? I just sent off my headshot/resume to the only 3 SAG franchised agencies in Michigan.

Why don't you start in Michigan then when you have the means, move to NY or CA. Plenty of soaps tape in both states with many more tv opportunities being in Los Angeles. Honestly what you need to do first is make sure your parents are on board with this whole thing, then get into classes. You have to train before you jump into anything professional. Audition for local theatre once you've been in classes for a while. Once you're comfortable there, try your hand at student and indie films. Look for auditions on backstage.com and actorsaccess.com. Not being in a real hotbed of entertainment activity, you may have luck looking at websites for your state. Look up Michigan film and see what sites you find for your state's film commissions, associations, etc. Those sites often have casting information for projects filming in your state and even where you can take classes so check them out thoroughly.

You can have an agent anywhere, but it's not always practical unless you have the means to get to that location quickly. Also, yes auditions can be short notice, but often you have at least 24 hours. I don't ever remember being given same day notice.

good luck!

How do you expect to get to an audition in NYC, when you live in Michigan? Often you have an hour or two notice for auditions and bookings.

As for soaps, you need to be in NYC on a regular basis, because, again, you may get a call at the last minute for an audition or a booking.

Can you fly from your city in Michigan to NYC for an audition the same day?

Make up your mind. Soap auditions are often last minute, as are soap bookings.

You just can't do that as Theatre Gurl explains. You have to live in the city that your agent is in, so there is no way you can audition for soaps in Michigan. If you are 18 or older and can move to NYC read my profile and contact me at my aol address and I will tell you how to break into soaps.

no. if your in michigan how would you make auditions in NY? that isn't possible. you don't get enough notice of when you have auditions to make it too them if your not local to where they are.

Im a Leo and it says I attract a Capricorn When down to earth, responsible, loyal Capricorn meet you, they've met their match. You are as ethical as Capricorn, and they respect your values. You are also able to be a loyal and caring partner to your Capricorn, even when times are tough. You are there to cheer up or motivate your Capricorn - which never goes unappreciated.

No. Auditions can be very short notice (ie. calling in the morning for an afternoon audition) so you need to be in close proximity. If you want to work in NY, you need to live in NY (or nearby).

YES. you can have an agent in another state as long as you are able to travel there. there are plenty of actors who have out of state representation. you just need to make sure that you can pay to get there when needed.
