A baby is smaller, therefore has greater ratio of surface area to volume; this creates greater friction falling through the air, and this would slow the fall somewhat. Plus, of course, it landed in just the right spot in the netting, and in the right position; and a baby's bones are less brittle than an older person's.
I don't agree that the baby was unaware of danger; fear of falling, like fear of loud noises, is one of the few instinctive fears a baby is born with.

This is an easy one. If the world gets too hot, we've proven that we can survive it because the "Cradles of Civilization" were in hot, dry areas. If the world gets cold, then we've already proven that we can withstand ice ages, and that's without any "high" technology. If the world gets overpopulated, it will, out of necessity, balance itself out. I don't think we need to worry about surviving the next 100 years. The real question is how to we keep the next 100 years from becoming the next Dark Age.

I don't know for sure but i think it may be something to do with the fact that baby's bones are a lot softer than ours and they take years to knit together..had he/she of landed on head the outcome would not have been so lucky.. just glad to hear on of life's miracles, instead of all the doom and gloom that we hear all the time.

As an adult, you would be aware that you were falling and your body would tense, this would cause a shattering effect. A baby, however, wouldn't know that, so would be more relaxed! Plus his fall was broken by some netting!!
But still a very lucky little fella!!

Agree with jibs, the baby landed on netting a foot or so in either direction would have meant disaster, how did a child as young as this manage it in the first place?

Apparently, his fall was broken by some netting.
There is a theory that if your body is completely limp when you hit the floor you will suffer far less injuries that if you hold yourself rigid.
Quite a staggering thing to survive though, just hope he doesn't try it again!

As your bones arent properly formed until you have finished growing babies are a lot tougher than they look. However, this is even a bit of a push. How did he manage to fall out of the window in the first place?

Has Michael Jackson been at it again? This time they should do something.
The baby probably reached terminal (no pun intended) velocity at the 5th floor and landed on the nappy end which is well padded.

Serveral factors the baby landed on safety netting put up for scaffolding so broke the babies fall and babies and children have softer bones then adults so harder to break. Also your time is not up till it's up!
