I agree with you, and as a lib, quickly moving towards the other side I've been asking alot of questions and learning a lot lately. I do agree that liberalism is based on emotion. Because if you learn anything you realize why its wrong.
That being said and to your comment about stripping freedom is understandable, although I could argue where Republicans have pushed laws that are to intrusive into a persons personal lifestyle choice.
However if a person decides to make a negative lifestyle choice, it shouldn't be the responsibility of the government or tax payers to bail them out.
I would like to see the government not only less involved in the money we earn, but also less involved in things that are lifestyle choices.
I've always believed in the saying "your rights end where the other persons nose begins" Until you have something that directly effects other people in harmful way, where is the need for a law?

No Regards for spending? Oh Please, 70% of our accumulated debt came from three 'Conservative' administrations - Reagan, G.Bush, G.W.Bush. The last Democrat, youlabel Liberal Balanced the budget and was paying the debt down.
What Liberals want is to address the problem of society. This is not just an emotional response to help people in need (but there is absolutely nothing wrong with that). It is also about insuring justice and fairness, so that disadvantaged have a path out of poverty. Opression breeds discontent, discontent breeds bigger problems than a bit of social spending and the spending we do investing in peoples future like education.
And as for Heroes:
Clinton was a Hero for balancing the Budget
LBJ was a hero for addressing povety and civil rights, long ignored by the power elite of this country.
FDR was a hero in so many ways. He essentially proved that solving problems with government action is far better than letting them fester while millions suffer just to protect the ideology of conservatives.
Now exactly what freedoms have liberals stripped you of?

Is that what you really think? That's like saying conservatism is based on emotion. After all, the conservatives in office right now have no regards for spending.
Conservatives don't empower people to be great. Conservatives want people to be robots and do what they are told.
I don't know anyone who wants higher taxes. That is the biggest myth of all.
If anyone wants to control your life and think they know what is best for you it is the Conservatives, with telling people who to marry, what a person can do with their own body and tell people who to worship and where.
Look at your own heroes, George W. Bush who has created more enemies. Ronald Reagan who outspent his.
If it weren't for liberals, you would have no one to bash.

Liberalism actually was the word used to describe the march towards freedom and the celebration of individual rights following the American revolution. It is only in our era that liberalism has been used to describe democrats in a dismissive manner.

Liberals are elitists. They feel guilty about there success so they say that they want to give our tax dollars to those less fortunate. It makes them feel like they care.
This stops, of course, when it effects them directly. For example, Robert Kennedy wants to decrease CO2 but he flies on private jets and does not want windmills in Cape Cod.

Emotion, devoid of rational thought.
And Bush did not go to war in Iraq because "God told him to".
