why would a man that was a good friend for years suddenly start treating me like im no one, nothing to him at all, worse than a stranger.we work together and now he will salute everyone else first bar me, little subtle things, ignoring me in favour of others etc.its like the message is..you are not important to me.this hurts cause we were mates and yes once there were feelings there but we sorted all that out and things were fine. Whats going on ?

If it bothers you that much ask him what's going on. There is something going on but it is hard to guess what it is since we don't know him. Did you do something to upset him? Maybe he has someone else and he cares about you more than you think and is trying to distance himself.

Obviously something happened. Could he have found out something you did not tell him? Maybe someone told him something? Why don't you ask him directly? The worse thing that can happen is that he won't answer you and you'll be the same as how you are right now.

Good luck. Hopefully it's just a misunderstanding.

You have to be careful, if you have feelings there for him as you intimated, what ever the excuse he'd say; you'd accept it with an open heart.
Well, actually it depends on you if you want to forgive him (if the reason was lame), but my suggestion:

be a better person by confronting him, forgiving him & your self & moving on.

The best thing you can do is talk to him politely. Tell him that you are the one being hurt on what he is doing. knowing the truth will make you feel better.

Maybe there are some rumors going around that you have not heard yet - ask him. Sometimes bitter people will say nasty things if they think it will get them closer to someone at the expense of others.

don't even try to interpret his behaviors
ask him
if he can't give you a straight answer then just tell him how you feel
and just leave it be
give him time to think and sort things out and maybe he'll get back to you in a few days
if not, he's not worth it

I think you may have tried pushing him too much into having a relationship that he does not want.

Friendships come and go.

If you aren't willing to let go, you'll need to talk to him to find out why his behavior has changed. There are endless possibilities.

He's hurt about something and can't tell you his feelings.
