I use the doorbell first and if I can't hear it ring inside the house then I knock on the door. Sometimes the doorbell doesn't work.

I try the doorbell, but I don't have much patience.
If they don't answer right away I will start knocking.

yeah, cuz sometimes doorbells don't work, and it saves time if you just knock to begin with.
