I had someone spill fruit punch on my brand new tan pants. What do you think I should do to get it out, or is it a lost cause?

Yow! No, I don't think Tide alone will work. If it is all you have, try saturating the spot with the Tide, add a little water and rub for awhile, rinse through to see how it's going. You may have to go with a more powerful stain remover, OxyClean or some of the other stain removers, pretreat including let sit for awhile (like hours) and then hand wash. Whatever you do, don't put in dryer until you are certain the stain in out. Heat may set the stain permanently.

Pretreat both sides of the fabric with the tide and let sit for a few hours or overnight. Then wash as usual with regular amount of detergeant. If it doesn't all come out the stain won't be set and you can retreat the area.

I would try soaking them in Oxy clean overnight. I soak everything this way that gets stains and it comes out. I have gotten baby items from yard sales that have stains but are really cute and it comes out. I have even gotten tar out of white pants. I would say use an entire scope of Oxy with extremely hot water, mix really well before adding the pants to it. Use about two gallons of water.

Hope this helps!
