there are two schools of thought on this.the first is any video game that you play a character is a role playing game.the second is that they are any game with a fantasy motif for example advanced dungeon and dragons is a pen and paper fantasy role playing game another example is the final fantasy series.either way i tend to go with a the second idea.but it's up to you.
