You can make the filter any size that fits your needs, you will just have to find a container to start with. Any plastic box that allows water to flow freely will work. put a old colonder upside down on the bottom over the pump and stand your fountain on the top it will stop the snails and newts frogs and such getting suked in or an old pond basket(empty) upside down the same will do the trick hope you have success with this it worked for me eric john. let me know if it works
