There are no real ants sold in pet shops in the UK but if you're having some hot weather you can leave your door open and welcome them in. You feed them every bit of food you have in your home.

Actually, I have seen ants for sale before at a Pet-Shop, although it seems most people think you're being sarcastic. However, I'll just assume that you're being dead serious.
It depends, do you want to start a colony? Or just have some ants roam around as personal entertainment for yourself? If it's the first, major pet stores don't really carry them. Try to find an exotic locally owned pet-shop. Or give Petland a look. I've seen them there in Ft. Myers, Florida. I believe the site is www.petland.com. They aren't advertised on the site, but they had them there. They were crazy foreign ants and were actually kind of pricey...

There are some leaf cutter ants for sale in the pets section at my local garden center. I don't know how much they are. The setup that they're in is like 2 tanks with a glass tube joining them together. The leaves are in one tank and the nest is in the other. You can see the ants goin to and fro with the leaves. Pretty cool.
The garden center in Hollybush Garden Center. Junction 11 on the M6.

I don't think it's fair to keep a single ant. They are very sociable creatures & like to live in groups. Please consider this when you make your purchase. They eat anything.
First decide which type of ants you would like.
Red ant. - can be aggressive if disturbed
Flying ant. - need a tank with a lid on
Black ant. - can be difficult to see in the dark
Giant ant. - can grow to the size of tower block &
are expensive to feed.
Please also consider neutering your ant colony as there are too many in the world as it is without adding to the population.

In an ant shop - or perhaps catch one in the garden. They can live for a year on one grain of rice so are very cheap to keep as pets.
