2012 is the year the anceint Mayan Calendar ends. The had a very sophisticated solar calander, and according to that, 2012 is the year it ends. Will it??? I really don't think so, but the thing about ancient cultures, they knew a whole lot more about our earth. Their whole civilization was dependant upon knowing certian times and seasons. We in our "superiority" are ignorant.

People have been predicting the 'end of the World' based on numerology, scripture, the ravings of Nostrodamus, and every other thing imaginable for as long as I can recall.
I don't even waste time with them.
There -are- some things that are very real: The volcanic dome under Yellowstone National Park has, for the last 20 years or so, been giving off all of the signals that say a major eruption is in the making. And when that one goes, it will make Mt. St. Helena look like a firecracker. It may be a hundred years from now, or next week, but it's gonna happen.
If the Astronomy folks say that there's a large object heading for us, I'd pay attention to that.
It's a simple fact that the San Andreas fault hasn't had a major stress relief (earthquake) in a long time. One of these days.......
Same thing for the New Maderas fault. The last time it went big-time (in the early 1800's, IIRC) there are reliable reports that the Mississippi River actually flowed from South to North for a couple of days.
But there's not much I can do about any of them, so I don't worry too much about them.

Disclaimer:I am playing devil's advocate here...

Firstly, the Mayan calendar DOES NOT end in 2012,a cycle ends..big difference.

An interesting tidbit, the calendar predicted..to the EXACT day, that "white bearded(Mayans had no facial hair) "gods" would conquer them. They didn't turn out to be "gods",more like Spanish conquistadors, but they nailed it to the day.

Another interesting note.Several years ago,not sure of the exact year, scientists announced the world would be impacted by an asteroid in the year 2012.This made headlines around the world, was even addressed at the UN.Suspiciously, shortly thereafter, they announced they had recalculated the orbit and the asteroid would not hit.Think about it.So,they studied this asteroid and felt confident enough to release their findings that it would impact, then, after just 1 more week, they say they screwed up.HMMMMM.If an asteroid WERE coming, and you are a world leader, would YOU inform the public?I wouldn't.It would cause needless panic. So,who really knows if the headline "DOOMSDAY ROCK HEADED FOR EARTH" was the truth, and to avoid widespread panic and civil disorder they silenced it?Like I said.I think 2012 will be followed by 2013 just as always.I've heard "end of the world"too many times. But it's fun to play devil's advocate sometimes

its December 23, 2012. from the Mexicas (Aztecs). it says a new phase starts, not that the world is gonna end. and not a prediction. everyone around there had the wheel but it wasnt important to them, they had no big animals to pull wagons....so why use the wheel? the sun has another 5 billion years or something might hit us within that time or if we do something. and correct whoever said solar calendar. it...Mayan religion?? what is Mayan religion? Mayans were the people. you cant prove that they all died off. the men were killed by the european gringos and not the women. everyone is talking about this, everyone is beleiving this. they had the solar calendar, huge pyramid temples(3rd largest in the world), math, science, knew how to cultivate, had chinampas(floating gardens), had the number zero(MORE important than the wheel). come on...sacrifices? you really beleive that? if you say its true.....WHERE are the MASS GRAVES? heres a fact, there were 170 skulls found. heres a claim, the european gringos CLAIM 27,000. where are they? NOWHERE cuz there are none. get it right!

This is the year the Mayan calendar ends. Why it ends there no one knows. Maybe they fired the calendar makers, maybe calendars lost their allure or maybe the Mayan empire was coming to a close and they just stopped working on it. who knows, but humans have been waiting for the end of the world forever and sooner or later somebody will get the date right.

The most important thing that will happen in 2012 is that after 12 months it will turn into 2013.
Don't believe anything you see or hear on pay TV. The Discovery Channel and the History Channel have lost all credibility because of the absolute bullshit they are putting to air. Unfortunately, as has been shown in the past, the american people have been so dumbed down that they can longer tell truth from lies ( also see 911 Official Report).

Just my luck - I will turn 55 on 21 December 2012 - I could quit work and draw a pension from that day on - the world WOULD end then.....

the Mayan religion, before it died off in the 1500's, predicted the world would end in 2012. Why anyone would believe these people who had human sacrifices and cut the hearts out of living citizens, is beyond me.

Winter Solstice 2012 is a point of harmonic resonance with the Galactic Equator at which time Earth will be struck with in infinite stream of gamma rays and Time as we know it will cease to exist. In other words, everything you could possibly imagine (including ordinary life) will all be happening, all at once.

It's NOT exactly that Winter Solstice 2012 is Dooms Day per se, it's just that, there is no such thing as a time AFTER that date. In fact, Winter Solstice 2012 is a time that will NEVER BE REACHED although eternally APPROACHED. Everything on Earth gets quicker and quicker until Winter Soltice 2012 (bigger storms, faster technology, biotechnology/nanotechnology explosion, population boom, etc. etc.). However, Winter Solstice 2012 is like the speed of light. It would take an infinite amount of energy to reach that date. And, we will reach that date, because Earth will be struck by an infinite stream of photos being emitted from the Galactic Equator.

Nothing that happens BEFORE Winter Solstice 2012 will have any effect on what happens AFTER Winter Solstice 2012. It is a time of infinite change.

Because at that moment, cause and effect cease, whatever you IMAGINE at that moment, ANYTHING, will INSTANTLY MATERIALIZE BEFORE YOUR EYES. It is the fusions of consciouss will, and physical substance.

As a minor side note, the North and South Magnetic poles will reverse, and the Earth will start rotating in the other direction.

Here on Earth we will experience things beyond our wildest dreams, but if you were to observe Winter Solstice 2012 from a point OUTSIDE Earth (say from a spaceship), you will simply see the Earth get enveloped in an instant infinite particle interactions. From above, it will look like frothy white fizz.

However, to LIVE THROUGH Winter Solstice 2012 from an Earthly perspective will be another story, a story with NO ENDING. There DOES EXIST a time AFTER Winter Solstice 2012, however, if you are here on Earth, you will have to wait forever to experience it.

All those finding themselves here on Earth AFTER Winter Solstice 2012 will remember an eternal past on Earth, which the rest of the universe will have no recollection of. And, because from Earth's point of view, it will have been an eternity since any time BEFORE Winter Solstice 2012, it won't have anything to do with any past that the rest of the universe remembers.

Outside observers can expect ANYTHING to emerge from the Earth AFTER Winter Solstice 2012.

And if you are here on Earth, you can expect ANYTHING to happen in the moments leading up to Winter Solstice 2012.

What we think is the Big Bang, is actually just our emergence from a similar, yet opposite, Solstice, which occured when the Earth was 1/2 revolution away from its location on Winter Solstice 2012.

The "Big Bang" and "Big Crunch" are real phenomenon, but not exactly the "beginning" and "end" of the Universe, but rather, the beginings and ends of the continuity of Time from Earth's point of view.

All planets experience their own unique Big Bang and Big Crunch when the harmonic resonance is right with the Galactic Equator.

The moment after Winter Solstice is an instant of infinite rebirth, and the fusion of consciousness with matter. Be careful what you are thinking at that time. You have an eternity to live it out.

Everyone is not talking about it. If all your friends are talking about it that says a lot about you and your friends, not about reality. Why would you believe a Maya prediction? They never even invented the wheel and you believe their predictions about the end of the world? Get real.
