As evidenced by one of the above answers, one thing I noticed from watching some of it was that if WWII had been fought with today's media culture, we'd all be speaking German or Japanese. Things were done in order to win that war that would be splashed all over the internet today. The "sensitive" folks among us would be wailing about the unneccessary bloodshed, the wanton violence, the indiscriminant killing of civilians, the environmental destruction, and the horrible toll on our soldiers.

The allies would have lost as a result of the hand-wringing and constant calls for FDR's impeachment. Truman would have been called an idiot.

Excellent program. I like how he lets the vets of WWII tell the story. It brings an excellent insight and first hand experience to the horrors of war. I have to laugh at some of the comments of people trying to compare WWII to the current Iraq War. Granted war is always ugly but trying to compare a world wide war in which Hitler at one point controlled all of Europe and portions of the Soviet Union to the current illegal invasion of a small country by the US is ridiculous. People should check their history books. Although the US was sending equipment, the US did not even get involved in WWII with troops until the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. At least there we did end up attacking the country responsible for the attack on US soil.

I did, it only reinforced my view of what whiners the liberals are. We would lose sometimes 15,000 or more American GI's in a single day. There were no Cindy Sheehan's or Rosie O'Donnell's back then.

Begona because of your bias you missed a fantastic documentary. I've seen Ken Burn's Civil War, in fact I own it on video tape, he did a great job with nothing but still pictures. In this one though, he has video, and a lot of it in full color. It was great!

Did you catch the part about offering a reward for the capture of a soldier from Japan .
It seems that all of them died and committed suicide before a reward was offered for a living soldier .
Then we started to collect hundreds of them all of a sudden .

War is hell and we executed thousand of Japans military soldiers before the high command sent word down that it wanted some of them alive .

Nope. PBS is for liberal wimps. I don’t have time to waste

Tired trucker, thanks for the info. I've just been burned to many times with PBS precisely because of their BIAS. I'll be checking for that dvd

Sly, To err is human, to forgive is divine. I already admitted I was wrong. That’s more then a lot out there would do

EDIT: Sly, At age 57 I’m still learning. I don’t play video games and if you would have left your EDIT as: good for you, you would have come across as a true compassionate conservative.
