Okay let's start by giving the AP & USA Today's coaches polls a big thumbs down! The 1st 5 are pretty much the same with 1 & 2 flip flopping, which should quiet the LSU fans, as they got the #1 spot in the AP poll. I don't have any problems with that, as 1 & 2 are pretty close and in the following weeks to come will show us all who actually deserves that spot and until then they both should be looked at as #1.
Okay here's where my problem with the polls that are made up by the blind and dumb comes in.
UF loses to a 2 loss team at home and they only fall 3 spots in the coaches poll? Where they are ahead of a South Florida team that was a 16th ranked(I think) team that beat the #5 team? South Carolina who I think is WAY overranked anyway, but they are 11 in the AP and 18 in the coaches poll. How can that be possible? It just shows the irrelevant of the polls. Anyway, UF will play Kentucky, Georgia, and South Carolina, who are all overranked, but they all play each other so.....

It will eventually play itself out.
Oklahoma fans are pretty quiet as they were talking all kinds of smack, while they lose to Colorado.
And I admit I was wrong about South Florida! I think.... How good are they!!?
We'll see when they play Rutgers, who lost to a very bad Maryland team.
One thing I'm happy about is my Noles looked decent against Alabama!!
Your thoughts about this past weekend's games. Your school and how they looked?

I also understand that until you lose, you can't drop in the rankings. I don't really have a problem with that. As teams like Hawaii might be a little iffy, because they haven't played anyone to compare them to a "true" top team. I do believe that the next 4 weeks will show a lot of team's true colors and probably 10 teams that you see now in the top 25 will not be there.
So, let's keep watching and talking and of course smiling!
:)

***Hey vegtable girl,
How can you NOT say UGA,USC(not the real one), and Kentucky are NOT overranked?
UGA barely beats an Alabama team that FSU completely destroys... UGA gets manhandled by USC(non trojan style) They don't deserve their 11&12 spot, do they? Kentucky beats Louisville, who hasn't seen the top 25 in 3 weeks now. South Carolina is also kinda iffy, they beat Georgia, yes, but is that a quility win? We don't know? Kentucky and USC(Spurrier's team) play Thursday night in South Carolina, so onw of those teams will have a loss and shouldn't be considered anymore.
All I'm saying is, just like Hawaii, they haven't played anyone and we don't know how good or bad they really are. Do we?

***atbkkj,
I wouldn't start that junk talk about how the PAC 10 teams couldn't survive in the SEC. If you knew anything about college football and maybe even watched a few games this year, you wouldn't even bring that up!
:)

***jimbohennessy,
Very good points, wait no they weren't. No, seriously. Are you legally blind or just plain dumb? Either way, you don't watch much college football do you?

***EDIT***
Okay, the 1952 reference made me realize that the poll system is just fine.....

Hey dummy. Don't you know another line besides "you don't watch much college football, do you." Apparently you watch but with ACC blinders on. FSU did beat Bama but I would hardly say they destroyed them. Georgia did a much better job against the Tide the week before. The FSU-Bama game was tied with 6 minutes to play and FSU hit a lucky bomb and won by 7. I don't think anyone but you would say destroyed. Kentucky is undefeated and beat Louisville who some said would be in the championship game. Georgia lost only to South Carolina. The Gamecocks played a good game against the best team in the country (so far) LSU. So they aren't overrated. Who would you put in the top 10? Oh I bet I know FSU, right? Sounds like a bunch of sour grapes to me. DON'T YOU WATCH COLLEGE FOOTBALL?

FSU beating Alabama was a big statement. I thougth bama had that game before the kickoff. FSU finally looked strong. I'm glad. I hate to see that program suffer so much. They finally had it together Saturday.

Kentuck is a pretty good team. I agree they may be ranked a little higher than they should be but their QB is Vince Young like. He has the talent to win the game no matter who the opponent is. The talk is that he might end up as an Atlanta Falcon next year.

South Florida really had the mountaineers looking like an unranked and unprepared team Friday night. WV couldn't get anything to work. USF just dominated the ball on every snap.

Although Florida lost I believe their ranking ahead of USF is correct. Even though UF's record is not undefeated the team they lost to (Auburn) is a lot like FSU. They have a lot of talent and have had some trouble clicking and having consistency on game day. Auburn and FSU just happened to get it together finally this past Saturday and showed two great teams that they are still great teams too. Too bad they struggled earlier in the season.

I am humbled since my Sooners took it on the chin from the Buffaloes of Colorado. Oklahoma rested on their laurels and they didn't play with the same intensity in the 2nd half that they did in the 1st half.

While I'm still in shock about OU losing to Colorado, my hats go off to the team from Boulder. They played with a "never say die" attitude and that's why the underdog is a fan favorite.

I agree with you that South Carolina is overrated. I also think Hawaii is overrated because they haven't really played anyone. How can Hawaii, who has played 2 Division I-AA opponents, be ahead of Illinois who is undefeated in the Big Ten? How can Hawaii be ahead of an undefeated Kansas team or a Kansas State team that decimated Texas? Some rankings just don't make sense.

This past weekend was hellacious for half of the college football world. So many teams struggled or were upset. I know a lot of money in Las Vegas was lost thanks to teams like South Florida, Colorado, and Illinois. ^LOL^

I don't tend to pay too much attention to the polls this early in the season as they are pretty irrelevant. However, I will say that I was very impressed with South Florida as they pretty much manhandled a team that I felt had a great chance to make the BCS Championship game.

I am an Illinois alum and fan. Let's just say, I like the direction that our program is headed. I think that we could make things interesting next weekend at home against Wisconsin.

Your opinions about various teams are fine but, with respect to the polls in general, you are forgeting that they are based on opinions concerning the quality of the teams. If USC barely beats Washington but I as a voter think they played down to their competition and still think they can beat anyone I still vote them number one. If I think that game exp[osed their weaknesses I may vote them lower. It all depends on how I view each team and their individual performances. While the numbers 3, 4, and 5 teams all lost this weekend, I believe they should drop in the polls but not very far. For the most part I still feel they are better than most other teams and, in some cases, better than the team they just lost to.
The standings are about exact wins and losses but the polls are about personal opinions of the people being polled (either coaches or sportswriters). For example the voters obviously think Florida is a much better team than they displayed this weekend and only dropped them slightly.

An example is the 1952 season where Maryland went undefeated but lost their bowl game. They were still voted national champs because they had to play in the bowl game without their starting QB and still almost won, prompting the voters to still believe they were the best team in the country. Those who don't like the polls and don't like opinions coming into play are the ones who want a national playoff in college football.

A) Maryland is not a very bad team. You'll find that out come November.
B) To say Georgia is overranked is absurd. They would beat FSU by 21 if they played this week.
C) I would be more worried about finishing higher than 3rd in the ACC Atlantic Division than the polls.

Face it, there are 2 teams right now who are 1 and 2 and then about 15 teams who should all be ranked #10.

Your understanding and knowledge of college ball is bout the worst I have ever seen. All damn year you been way off on your predictions and opinions. It is funny how you say that UF, UK, UGA, and South Carolina are all over ranked. That is your ignorant azz biased against the SEC talkin again. You aint had a clue all year and I can see you still don't.

My thoughts?
1. How does that taste Gator fan?!!! Where are you today?
2. If you were mad that Ohio State had an easy road to the BCS title game last year, how are you going to feel this year?
3. I think Navy may actually be favored over Notre Dame this year
