Since you work in a kitchen, a deviled egg would be cute. Ready-made one at Source. Home-made one follows:
You'll need:
White clothes and t-shirt clothes
Pitchfork
Horns
Yellow and white facepaint
Instructions:
This is such a funny one. Dress all in white, using a white t-shirt and white face paint on your face. Tie the shirt up to expose the belly and paint it yellow. Wear a pair of devil horns and carry a pitchfork around.

Pillsbury Dough Boy/Girl

Mummy
You'll need:
All white shirt and sweat pants
First aide gauze rolls
Face paint
Instructions:
Paint your face totally white and then add some green and black around the eyes. Wrap the gauze around your head and neck, not too tight, until only your face is showing. Add a scar and blood to your face and some blood on the gauze. Randomly add gauze and blood around your body and limbs. You could just baste stitch or safety pin the gauze to your clothes for easy on and off.

I think the baked potato suggestion is hilarious by the way.

Seriously you should keep it simple so what about making a costume that makes it appear that you have been impaled or stabbed with something in the kitchen. You could do the fake blood & everything while still wearing your every day clothes.

right here is a few suggestions: bo-peep a fairy a marionette doll (with the pink circle cheeks, curled hair, a flouncy dress, vivid eyelashes and strings linked of direction) a facebook/myspace internet site (use cardboard) somebody from a definite term 50s,60s,70s,80s(very exciting!) or from medieval/rennaissance usually widespread fictional charachter or a fairytale character-Rapunzel, etc. This one is fantastically cheesy yet considered one of you will desire to string small ceral boxes on somewhat rope then stick forks via the boxes and positioned on it around your neck (subsequently THE CEREAL Killer)get it?? Yeah that one could be to "gay" for you (as a results of fact that 13yr olds who do matching costumes are) yet its basically a tenet.

ninja, safari outfit, Swiss Miss, Dorothy (Wizard of Oz), cat (sew tail to back so doesn't drag)
It's hot in a kitchen - go as a nudist :D (too dangerous with the open flames but what about a body suit?)
The Oscar statue
soldier, hiker, biker, Indian brave or squaw (chief's hat would flame out), crayon (tube-ish shape from shoulders to thighs from old sheet can be discreetly snipped to prevent binding and then a pointy hat)
go as a server! you'll really confuse them
a car, you'll figure out the headlights and bumper (got grillz?)
simplest? - a baby -a pair of Depends and you're ready :D
hope one of these inspires you to the heights of creative genius :)
Have fun!
