Hi 99% sure changing the motor brushes will cure this problem.
Disconnect the mains power, take the top off and locate motor, Remove motor and extract the two brush holders located on the motor casing at the opposite end to the pully.
Replace [£8-£14] internet cheapest/Dealer highest.
Replace and this should solve the problem. You will need a philips screwdriver and some 12-16mm spanners.
Ensure the drive belt is tight when reassambleing. best of luck. Ray

first what brand? every brand has a different thing. and what cycle does it stop on? whirlpool if stops on spin could be a coupler between the motor and transmission or the pump is not pumping the water. Maytag could be lid switch or pump. next question is it a front loader. you can not say it is timer no matter what. to many things could go wrong. i will call a service tech . make sure you have your model number ready. start with small things then work your way up.

This has happened to mind on several occasions.
Every time it has been coins or baby socks in the front filter.
Drain the machine, remove the filter. It's a horrible job but you could be better off by three pennies, a button and a sweet wrapper at the end of it.

It could possible be the motor brushes which when run down can leave gaps in the cycle program as the motor contacts are not always live. Take the lid off the washer and locate the motor and there should be one brush on either side of the motor. Release these and take them down to your local electrical dealer for replacements which usually cost in the region of £8. I have had the same difficulties before. Hope this is of help good luck

it more than likely a blocked filter whereby the run cycle of pump finishes and machine still has water inside which activates a switch and holds programme out .You did not say what type of machine you have but on whirlpool the filter is not visible you have to tilt machine on side remove hose from pump and clean out filter or you can try bi card or a lime scale remover but advise to clean inlet to pump first and try

A few things could have gone wrong
CrackedBelt
Faulty timer.
Something stuck in the pipe.
Heavy load.
Try a wash cycle without any clothes and put some vinegar and biocarbonate of soda to clear the muck( limescale and other muck)
If that doesnt work then call an enginner.

If the water is not fully draining the programme will not allow the next cycle to begin.Check that the filter is clear, and the outlet pipe is free of build up or partial blockage

Try what angel36 said.I had the same problem recently and it was just the blocked filter. This is sometimes situated at the front of the machine, low down and its like a little door that you open, inside is the filter.

if it's not moving off the wash cycle then it's the heater if it's getting to the rinse cycle then it's the pump that's either blocked or broken to fix the pump easy . Heater a bit harder but can be done by you
