I think I may have broken my ring finger at the joint just below the finger nail. I jammed it playing catch with a football. It is swollen and looks funny. I have put a splint on it and it still hurts a day later. If I go to the hospital is there much they can do or should I just suck it up and not worry about it.

You could probably just go to your regular doctor if you have one, instead of sitting at the hospital ER. You should have it looked at though, because if it is an unattended break you will likely get arthritis pretty bad in that finger. It may not sound like to big of a deal right now, but believe me arthritis is alot more painful than you can imagine. I had no idea!!
I jammed and broke alot of knuckles and fingers playing volleyball and never did much about them and now I'm 44 and have awful arthritis in my hands. Its no fun!!
It can't hurt to at least get a splint on it, so that the joint heals properly.
Good Luck

Maybe a few deeper inside bleeding for your finger (no longer correct by means of the outside.) Likely this can be a deep bruise. That's my exceptional wager. Hopefully you iced it early on...and preserve icing it if you'll be able to. If it does not get greater, see your health practitioner ASAP simply in case it's damaged (chipped or "smashed" as a substitute than fractured.)

Ok! go to the hospital immediately for special attention! If you dont get that thing treated, you will have a paralyzed finger for life!! Please get it checked!
