Ease of use with a tremendous amount of support options.

Linux is great, but there's no way a novice is going to install a linux server for their business and even come close to getting it working properly.

Windows isn't the easiest thing in the world, but it IS more friendly than linux. Further, it's pretty easy to find a Windows Technician who can help you - it's not impossible, but it's not easy to find a Linux technician.

This is one subject where you should receive a lot of comments.

Linux fans seem to severely criticise Windows for its flaws and faults. Linux is not without its problems either. I suspect it is not possible to make an operating system that is totally error free.

Windows is more expensive to purchase but it has a corporation behind it that continually polishes and updates the software to overcome flaws. It is abundant and many people write application software to work on the Windows platform. A down side of its abundance is that it generates an abundance of hackers who just want to seek out and exploit weaknesses for hacking purposes.

Linux comes in different flavors and styles. Some versions are updated by the makers, some do not. Applications may or may not work on them. Being less popular and being less uniform, hackers tend to avoid it because for the same effort they can hack into more Windows units solely because of Windows abundance. This does not imply Linux is less easy to hack into, just that fewer try to do so. There is less software that runs on it; sometimes you need to modify it.

Some Linux platforms are variants of Windows; some are variants of Unix. Unix is more stable and efficient than is Windows but it requires more technical skill to install and maintain it. The Unix stability is favored in higher end applications where downtime and maintenance is less frequent. However your application needs to be able to run on it.
