The thefts required two steps: entering the shop against common instinct and selecting an easily taken item. Perhaps the seagull was fed the item in the park and it was the only brand it trusted and enjoyed. The seagull was smart enough to not show the trick to associates. A small child was asked by an adult to select either a nickle or a dime and took the nickle 'because it was bigger' but later explained to his small friends that he had already collected half a dozen nickles from many adults, whereas if he took the dime the 'game' would be instantly over.

Yes, the seagull who took the crisps was from Glasgow and used to the ways of the world, The rest of them were busy eating kebabs.

Well, he seems to be the seagull equivalent of a drug dealer (scoring for his homies), he has the media on his side and even has other people paying for his theft.
If I was a seagull i'd elect him President!
