Yes I think when your young you are afraid of getting old, but as the years go on you just except it. You are only as old as you feel, I'm very old now and I hope to get older, I enjoy life now more than when I was younger how about that.

There are a lot of advantages to being OLD. You have more freedom - your kids are grown and if you raised them right they're independent and successful. You have your house paid off and you've invested wisely so you have more than enough money to last the rest of your life without ever having to work again if you don't want to. You spend the Winter in sunny Mexico and Summer up North where it's cooler. You don't have the stresses of climbing the corporate ladder, office politics or raising kids. You NEVER have to go to a dumb PTA meeting again. Life's GREAT!

I quite often think about this, because I work in nursing homes and care homes, and I see old age all the time. So many old people are vulnerable and dependent, and you look after them very carefully and kindly and with great patience. But my wife asked me the other day to track down a poem with the opening lines 'Let me not see old age ...' which I did. That is how she feels. A friend wrote to me recently to say that getting older isn't a problem, but getting old is.
Try reading Simone de Beauvoir's book 'Old Age'.

I'm not afraid of being old, because there's nothing wrong with being old.
There is, however, something wrong with old people trying too hard not to seem old. You know the type -- the guy who is nearing retirement but still grows his hair to his waist and smokes weed every day, or the woman who has **** sagging down halfway to her waist, but she still goes out every Friday night and drinks until she's dancing on the bar and her eyeshadow is smeared all over her face.
I am afraid of becoming one of those people. I am afraid that I'll have trouble letting go of my youth instead of having the guts to face it gracefully.

No I am more afraid of "not getting old!!" If I live long enough to get old, I am planning on making the most of it. I am looking forward to enjoying the rest of my life when I get old.

I am a little bit afraid because I don't want to lose my mind...it is fun to be young, but I also know that it is a normal part of the life cycle and it is beautiful...I am trying to accept the fact that one day my mind and body will start to slow down.

A little bit. Its not so much the age thing for me, just the limitations you are under and all the responsibilities you should have by then. People say being young is a state of mind, but those people usually look a state.
