how far does the speculum open when having a cervical screening?

i seen the pictures on goggle images, now im dead scared,
are there any other way around having this test.

No, the reason for the speculum is because it helps the doctor get the cells from your cervix easier. As for how far it opens, it is about 5 inches or so. I would recommend that before having any tests done that you make an appt with your primary care physician or gynecologist to talk to them about your concerns and any questions you have. With a gynecologist I would recommend that you see a female physician because I think you will feel more comfortable and they can help you feel more relaxed.
