The best way I know to tell someone, is listen to those around you speak. All mind you don't themselves speak good english even though they were born and raised here. I recommend go to your local library and check out the audio cassette tapes that help you obtain or acquire the english basics. Then it is pratice pratice. I have a english speaking person for 42 years and still have trouble now and again with the way our country changes and the vocabulary used.

The more you talk in English, the more comfortable you'll be with the language. Don't avoid talking in English because you are afraid of making mistakes. Just talk. You can always improve your grammar as you go along. Also try watching TV programmes that you also see in your language, in English .. e.g. the news channels like NDTV or something .. this will be easier to follow than watching other programs. Because they repeat the news stories during the day, so you can watch in your language and then watch the English version and you will find it easier to pick up and understand the words. If you try repeating (out loud) the words they speak, it will help your accent and pronounciation.

Improving your grammar will help of course, if you take a course in basic English grammar or pick up a simple do-it-yourself workbook (or maybe even a school text book). So reading will also help .. I recommend simple fiction with lots of conversation - in fact children's stories are actually good to read cos they're simply written, often have interesting stories - they're great fun and easy to read.

If you know someone who speaks very good English you can always ask them to talk to you inEnglish and help you practice, and to tell you the correct words or grammar or pronunciation when you make a mistake. Don't be embarrassed about it. The only way to learn is to make mistakes. Good luck!

practice, practice, practice. Don't use regular television for speaking guidance. Some of those people on there talk like morons. Use something like the Discovery channel or History channel--something like that.
