I've been doing (x)+(x+2)+(x+4)+(x+6)=-46 and trying to solve from there. It never comes out right! Could you please show me the steps? Thanks!

You used the wrong equation, since its consecutive integer its only x, x+1, x+2 and x+3. You only use x, x+2, x+4 and x+6 when it is consecutive odd or even integer.

let x be the first integer
x + (x+1) + (x+2) + (x+3) = -46
4x + 6 = -46
4x = -46 - 6
4x = -52
x = -13

Therefore the smallest integer is -13.

That would be because you should be doing

x + x+1 + x+2 + x+3 = -46
4x + 6 = -46
4x = -52
x = -13

-13 + -12 + -11 + -10 = -46

Four consecutive integers, not four consecutive ODD or EVEN integers.

x + (x+1) + (x+2) + (x+3) = -46
4x + 6 = -46
4x = -52
x = -13

The smallest integer is -13

The numbers are -13, -12, -11 and -10

(-13) + (-12) + (-11) + (-10) = -46
