Well you need to find out who your target audience is for the product and figure out why they need it or why they would want it. Then once you know the average age, ethnic group, income level, living style, and area in which you are marketing a product. ( I mean selling something in New York would be different from do it in Georgia, Kentucky, Idaho, Texas, California). If you have a small budget to start out with I would look into demographics of who will want/ need this and where are these people located in a big concentration. Then I would use your money to try and get the word out to that group. Once you see people are buying it you will begin to increase your review. Then you can expand on marketing to other areas that fall just below the group you chose as most likely to buy your product. In short I would research what group would want this the most them spend your marketing budget on targeting toughs groups. You can expand once your begin to increase your advertising once you make money off of that group. The National scale I would hold off on just yet. That will cost money and you will not get much in return for the small amount of advertising time you will be able to afforded. Make sure your product is sound and very reliable to start out with. I know that means usually putting more money into it, but people who like it and the quality will be the best advertisers you have and they are free. Word of mouth can do wonders, for beginning companies. Wish I knew what it was I could give a little more input. I am not a marketing person. I have a degree in history, but believe me researching who your main consumers are and targeting them should give you far better results and create cash inflow to your company until you have gotten out of the red and into the black a little. Then expand from there, jumping in to fast and a good idea or product will go no where. It takes a little time and patents. Good luck! =)

Now a days consumer psychological behavior are dominating on economic classification. You must have seen top class executives using simple mobile phones, small cars and so on. On other hand you would have seen a small hawker using a hi tech phone with camera and other stuff, wearing nike shoes or levi's jeans.
Social behaviour is driven by the society to maintain the standards. Well this will give you idea that who all are target group for your product. Advertising is the peripheral activity and will only help in generating awareness. The best way to market the product is to communicating the core benefits which will help in building emotional bond with the consumer for sustained profitability.
You can advertise your product at the point of purchase, doing some promotional activities which will engage the customer.
TV, print, radio outdoor will eat major chunk of your money and it does not ensure to give sales results. Though it is necessary but it will vary from product to product. For eg. if you are launching a product which will target only educated women from age group 30+ , then it doesn't';t make sense to go for mass marketing/advertising. you need to plan and Analise the keep points where you can target your consumer.
