If the only rumour you've heard about your collegaue is that he/she doesn't have internet then that's not a bad thing? I've heard considerably worse rumours over the years.
Rumours are a form of jealousy and spite and spread by nasty, jealous and even ambitious people. There is the old phrase that there is 'no smoke without fire.' That phrase really is a nonsense though, since most rumours are blatant lies and there really is smoke without fire in the case of rumours.
Of all the rumours I have come across in my lifetime, I doubt that a handful of them were ever true. To give you an idea of what is the truth. Look to the motives of the person who is spreading the rumour. If that person apparently has no motive, then ask them where they heard this or who told them this, and when you know that look to the motives of the person who spread the rumour and so on until you find it's source.
Usually you'll soon see it as a pack of lies and if you ever feel that you are being told a malicious lie - simply say, I don't believe that is true and spread it no further.

LOL, you are the most pathetic little brat I've ever seen. Of course you're not Miley Cyrus. You're just some kid whose addicted to Hannah Montana and will do anything to be Miley Cyrus. I bet you have like obsessive-compulsive disorder and it's taking over your life. AHAHAHA. Loser. You're not even typing correctly. It PROVES that you're a little kid because your typing is so horrible. So why don't you just go shrivel up in a corner or go back and smoke the pot you were smoking before going on the internet, huh? Oh, and here's a question for you. If you're the REAL Miley, you can answer this. WHY THE ************* HELL ARE YOU SO REDNECK-LIKE AND UGLY? Hahahaha. Retard.

They spread rumors because they have bad intentions inside their hearts. Hidden intentions are the killers of relationships.
Gossip comes from a cold , uncaring, unempathetic heart.
What these people dont realize is that gossip not only hurts other people but it hurts most the people that start the gossip because it decreases their ability to love from the heart.
Plus your in lebanon, you guys allready know my feelings there:)

Like why do people lie?
I think people lie to hold or change the truth when it is to their advantage or benefit.
Maybe your colleague wanted to have an excuse to not do online homework, or maybe they didn't want to talk to people they know over the internet.

hahaah....sorry gh to laugh , you just reminded me of an old song..."I heard it through the grapevine....In answer to your question, maybe your colleague was shy to say she goes on the net...but rumours come from jealousy I think, and human nature just to have something to talk about.Cheers!

HOW: one person tells another, who tells another, who tells another... etc
WHY: everyone after the initial rumor starter may believe that it is true, so they could be telling others in good faith.
YOUR SITUATION: maybe your colleague didnt want you to know she had it...
