Do not listen to those poster who have said that the Cup is cancelled. That is totally incorrect.
Melbourne cup day is the biggest day. All women will dress up, and wear lovely dresses and hats or facinators.
Dont take Bec Hewitts lead from last year and wear 3/4 pants as it looks tacky.
Head to David Jones or Myer Melbourne for an array of headdress.
Beware though that you wont be able to just buy tickets at the gate this year. It is all presale only - unless you are lucky enough to get into the birdcage!!

Firstly, YES the Melbourne cup IS going ahead.
As for the dress code, anything goes (except for trackies ofcourse!)
Your best bet is a mid calf cocktail dress, pair with a hair or other head accessories.
Just be careful as to what shoes you wear- wedges are great because they look good and are still comfortable.
There is nothing worse then seeing drunken women stroll out of the cup bare fotted.
Hope you have a great day!

You can wear whatever you like to the Melbourne Cup. The only area with a strict dress code is the Members area, the rest is unlimited. You can be very formal if you wish but there is no need to be. You could go as Big Bird; you could wear a bikini and a big straw hat; speedos with a bow tie and a top hat has been done many times. Just wear jeans and a top and you will look like most of the punters.

It's the one day a year where people really do wear their best clothes. Women always wear lovely dresses, high shoes and big hats. You can wear anything eccentric as well, for example, some young guys might wear a very brightly coloured suit with a funny hat. It's a day to have fun with fashion and to feel great.
So, is it really on this year?

Careful!.
Before you start outfitting yourself, check that there will, in fact,
be a Melbourne Cup this year.
At this stage the Cup is cancelled, but this decision will be reviewed closer to the date.

Yep, most people dress up and quite a few wear the big hats, I will be! The members section is quite dressy and guys cant get in without a suit and tie.
