If the Core 2 were a single-core processor like the Pentium 4 is, it would still be about 10% to 20% faster in most applications because of the design and features of the processor (cache RAM, faster front-side bus, improved processor-to-northbridge transport architecture).
Because the Core 2 is a dual-core processor, where it really makes the Pentium 4 look completely outdated are any multi-threaded applications, such as those used in video editing, multi-track audio recording and mixing, high-end graphics editing, 3D graphics and animation rendering, and CAD/CAM design. Also, any media applications that deal in high-definition media playback (such as 1280x720 or higher resolution h.264 or WMV HD video files, and Blu-Ray or HD-DVD disc playback) will use any available processing cores to decode video and audio as quickly as possible. As gaming catches up, a marked improvement will be shown in graphics quality and overall realism.

Core 2 is noticeably faster. Even with non-multithread applications because it handles windows background tasks while you are running an application very well.
It also runs much cooler than P4 3.2 GHz.
P4 can be 50 deg C or more. Core 2 run at 15 -25 C with stock cooling, mines even been at 0 C when it first starts up with just a standard cooling fan. Great overclocking potential!

It is almost 80% on the better side. As the processes that are executed by the P4 is shared by the 2 cores of the C2D, and with a higher amount of level 2 Cache with in the chip, this is made possible. Surprisingly, the amount of heat generated is almost 40% less for the same job as the working frequency is lower.

Actuallly ur chum isn't precisely incorrect i examine it in an editorial that too a lot processor speed isn't precisely mandatory or constructive an INTEL 2.4 GHZ center 2duo is particularly sturdy the actuality that the subject is ur usual reminiscence might desire to be the only that is larger ie the RAM goin for a 3GB or 4GB RAM heavily will improve the overall performance of ur laptop finished of a 2.4 Ghz center 2 Duo.

The old Pentiums are no longer comparable to Core2 Duo Technology. In benchmarks below, even the 1.8Ghz E4300 easily beats the 3.2Ghz Pentium D935 (dual core).

And the Core2 Duo processors run very cool at only 65 watts. The old Prescotts run at 84-115W and the Pentium Ds at 95-130W.

Not much.
read the specs on the intel web site.
No body is writing software for the dual core or quad core processors. The coding is to hard.
