I'm planning an RV trip from San Diego area to Seattle area with my 17 yr. old son and my 23 yr. old daughter in mid to late December. Looking for some great campsites along the way. We all love roller coasters, we'd like to try snowboarding and I want to play poker in a casino or two along the way. One stop for sure is Reno. Any suggestions? Please be really sincere with your answers! Thanks and Aloha!!!

San Diego= the ocean and right now, they're having an influx of whales. It's a very strange thing and was recently in the news. It seems that the whales that usually just move on past have taken up residence. Check it out online to find out where to go to view them. Also, check out SeaWorld.

You don't say what route you'll be taking so I'll just name off some places that I've enjoyed.

If you like missions and history then you'll love some of these

Mission San Diego de Alcalá

Some date back to 1771 and my favorite is San Juan Capistrano which is located along your route up I-5
"A few walls and a single dome of the great stone church survive. Known world-wide as the "home of the swallows", these little birds return every spring to Capistrano, where favorite spots for their mud nests are among the stones of the ruined church."

Casino's nearby

Also, The Le Brea Tarpits in downtown L.A. The museum is simply wonderful. Also, while close by, check out the Hollywood section. Take a walk down Hollywood Blvd and see all of the "stars". There's a Hooters across from what used to be Mann's Chinese Theater.

Moving along, of course we can't forget Anaheim and Knotts Farm or Disneyland. Also, just up I-5 is SixFlags Magic Mountain.

Casino's along the way (loose slots in the L.A. area are at Moronga (famous too) and at Oceans' Eleven (very famous and it's a card casino)

Also, you may want to check out the famed beaches, Venice Beach, Malibu Beach and the likes.

Whew... keep going and soon you'll be in wine country if you head up Hwy 101. Take I-5 to Highway 46 I believe and head over to 101 and along the way you'll find some vineyards. Keep going to 101 and you'll be right at the Hearst Mansion. Always good to see how the other half lives so take a tour. Right down from that is San Luis Obispo here's a link to that... http://www.californiamissions.com/cahistory/sanluis.html

and then you can move up to the Winchester House but before that check out Gilroy CA. It's the garlic capital of the world. You can smell the garlic everywhere.

Onto the Winchester House, the neverending house. It's something to see.

From there... well, there are only a few thousand things to do in the San Francisco area. Make sure you check out the Wharf and the bridge.

On up to the Mountains...Shasta is very pretty, check out the crag.

Whew, I'm tired...but one more thing....

Rolling Hills Casino in Corning :~)

I'll check back later and see if anyone has hit the Oregon and Washington area, if not, I'll give my tips there too.... I'm a female truck driver so site seeing is what I do best
