While the monks in Burma fight for democracy, the government here is planning to intercept our phone calls and listen in on our mobiles. This information will be supplied to loads of government bodies! Apparently this will help fight terrorism. RUBBISH. To all those who say 'if you have done nothing wrong then you have nothing to fear' are aiding this big brother culture. Why oh why is our privacy being attacked and stripped from us bit by bit??? I have a right to privacy, it's a liberty that is a god given right and i will not give it up for a snivelling nosey bunch of jobs worth sly filth while others die for their rights, we willingly give ours away....

Governments in both the US and the UK are not planning to listen in to our phone calls as they have been doing this since the 1950s. I don't know the US locations but the most famous "Listening Centre" in the UK is in North Yorkshire. The site is operated by the MOD (Ministry of Defence), at a place known as Fylingdale in the North Yorkshire Moors. When driving along the A19 Trunk Road, you can't miss Fylingdale as it is a number of what looks like extremely large golf balls. Fylindale has been intercepting our telephone calls and monitoring all radio frequencies since it was built. Apart from our phone conversations being intercepted and listened in on, we now have over 70% of the world's CCTV cameras in the UK. When we hear people like George Bush and Ex PM Tony Blair ranting on about Iraq and Afghanistan and the creation of a free country for their people, it makes we wonder, what free country? If it's anything like the UK, there is no freedom and hasn't been any for many years. When they rant on about Democracy, it also makes me wonder, what Democracy? Americans get a choice of two people to run their country and in the UK we get three. Our political parties decide who will stand for election without any consultation with the general public to discover who they would prefer to stand. Basically, in the US, you get two choices, vote for Hitler or Idi Amin. The choice is difficult as both will take you into a war. If I was an American, I would have to choose Hitler as he will have some intelligence and may just have a workable economic policy. The choice is difficult, either way you will vote for somebody that causes too much suffering around the world. We have the same in the UK but also have the choice to vote for the village idiot as a third choice. As we can't trust the village idiot with our economy etc. we also have to vote for a little Hitler. Remember, in the US and the UK, you have no "Freedom" and you have no "Privacy" so how can our politicians kill women and children in the pretence that they will be given what we do not have. In addition to what I have wrote here, the US CIA are highly likely to read this as they intercept E-Mails and web based material, based on key words and I'm sure I've hit one or two LOL

As for phone call no matter if you use a land lineor mobile phone this has been going on for many years now and not a new thing. There are some words that light up screens like terrorist, IRA,UFV, UDA, 'bomb' and a few names.
It would be strange if emails from anyone is not already being checked on with 'key' words in them that set bells ringing in MI5 and MI6. This sadly is the world we now live in and there is no going back. Terrorist activity here in the uK,Ireland and parts of Europe is still going on with a number of 'cells' in each country. Without good information, as well as checking phones we may well have a blood bath anywhere in the UK and we are due another sometime soon because fear is the key word for any terrorist group.
Your privacy is no longer private, never has been for the last 10 years and never will be again, amen.

unfortunately, government monitoring has been an issue since the dawn of modern civilization and still remains today. Except back in the day they wouldn't have a long drawn out trial of your peers arguing scientific evidence....they'd just behead you. Now granted that practice still exists in areas of the world, but not by the US gov't. Now as far as privacy, if you've ever taken a political science class, you would know that the right to privacy is not actually a right gauranteed in the constitution of the US. There are certain stipulations that the supreme court has granted under the 9th amendment allowing certain privacy rights to citizens, but those are still under scrutiny. Another point i would like to make is the use of the term government. Our governing body has so many seperations in it that it's amazing anything gets accomplished (it's the way our founders intended so no one group can make major culture changing policies overnight). It's a bad use of the word government and just allows other more educated people to see these writings as very conspiracy theorish. Get educated, go to college, learn some things before adding to the fasle hype, and don't worry about monks in burma, worry about yourself.

I agree. No-one has the right to invade my privacy, not even the government, I would rather have my privacy plus the risk of terrorism.... it is not even a big risk... about the same as getting run over by a car... plus the measures won't even reduce terrorism... and the right to listen to your call etc will most probably be abused and used for other purposes...

Right to privacy must not be intruded by the government to solve terrorism. Other methods must be adopted by the government to fight terrorism in order not to invade the privacy of the people.
