My wife and I bought a house a month before we married, because we were stupid. We wanted to live the American Dream, but it ended up being harder to keep up the house than I imagined. We've since sold it and live in a swanky apatment. We will eventually buy again, but I'm not in a real hurry to walk down that path again...

Apartment...we wanted to make a slow decision as to our preference. Peoples situations are different, I suggest you take a paper and write all living options on top of the paper and write down a list of all points of interest to the side check all as a pro or con. You take a few days to think of all points. At the end you add up the pros and cons and bingo you will know whats best for you guys to do .

Immediately after marriage, it is advisable to concentrate on good job, salary, status etc instead of craving for a house with loan.
Rent return on a house is minimal. Only one has to satisfy with a feeling of being a owner and from day one you have to count every dollar/rupee for repayment. You may have to sacrifice many things in the name of repaying loan with interest. Best time to buy a house is after financially settling down in career. You will be comfortable to make repayments after ensuring good income. If you are newly married give more importance to love making. all other things will follow in due course of time.
All the best.

1) duplex (in IL) - converted house in a nice residential neighborhood

2) mobile home (in FL) - in the country on 3 acres

3) house (in MI) - again in the country on 10 acres

All locations were chosen based on schools, shopping, and favorite hobbies and lifestyle
