I am not able to fully understand your requirement but shall try to give an answer.
Availability of resources locally determine the type of life people lead there. Hence expertise in a particular field becomes stronger based on what nature has provided. For example, people in a small island may be good in fishing/ boat building techniques. Those living in a desert area learn to use their water resources efficiently and their agricultural practices also tend to develop cropping methods that need less water. Such examples are numerous.
As a consequence of this, the cultural practices of people also get closer to what nature has provided around them.
This was the case in olden days when travel and communication facilities were poor. Now, with the world shrinking, cultures and patterns of economic development change very fast.
I am sorry if this answer does not satisfy your expectation.
