What will it help to get upset?
The government doesn't care or listen to the citizens suffering under crime they just open the borders to all
The police is trying their best but as soon as they caught some criminals the courts let them go free again and they are never found again
The police cant even destroy alcohol from people who is selling them without a license, the court then authorities that it should be given back
So all the police hard work goes to nothing
When you kill someone out of self defense, you will end up in jail.
So you tell why it will help to get upset!

I notice it every day of my life. I read it in the newspapers and watch the news everyday and it upsets me a lot. I feel sad and sorry for this country and the people. If you accept the crime as normal then there must be something terribly wrong in your head. Did you know that South Africa is the third most dangerous African country at this stage? It's terrible.

It´s reality in South Africa and something we need to live with. It´s not that we want to except it as reality we have to, nothing is being done about it...
Worse Than War
The UCA Report on Murder in South Africa reveals that according to the official statistics, in the 44 years from 1950 to 1993, there was an average of 7036 murders per year. This covered the turbulent strife of the apartheid years of warfare, conflict, terrorism, riots and repression.
However, in the first eight years (of peace) of the new democratic dispensation, under the ANC, an average of 24 206 murders were committed each year - officially!. However, if the Interpol statistics are accepted, then the murder rate in South Africa during the ANC years has averaged 47 882 per year.
When The Death Penalty Deterrent Is Removed
The report notes that the sharp exponential increase of violent crime, particularly murder, in South Africa, also coincides with the suspension of the death penalty in 1989 and its abolition in 1996.

I think that we all acknowledge the ever increasing crime rate but most people have to live with it so basically, you don't intentionally ignore it or refuse to acknowledge it but instead, you try your best to just get on with life as best you can, each day hoping and praying that nothing happens to you or your family and friends. It's a catch 22 situation.
Since my profession is in this field, of course crime is everywhere and it is not likely to go away although I really wish it would. I get upset every single day whilst doing my job because it is not something anyone will accept as being normal. If you ask me, it's getting freakier by the day!

South Africans have to wake up and realize that SA has become a beacon for the criminals from the world. Crime syndicates from Russia,China and Nigeria have set up shop in SA. Further more any criminal from Africa just have to walk South. SA's borders are porous and the visa requirements are far to slack. SA is now becoming the Columbia and Panama of the eighties. The average SA citizen is surrounded by these criminals from all over everyday. The police cannot cope and the social fabric of SA is collapsing. Crime and disrespect for the law has become the norm for the average citizen who is trying to make a living. If these foreign criminals are allowed to have a free reign then who is to tell them to abide by the law. Crime is a cancer that is growing in SA and it will eventually effect everyone in SA, it doesn't matter how privileged you are today or how rosy your outlook for a future SA is. To hide behind racist stereo types will not help, it just makes life easier for these criminals. If this crime cancer is not stopped then SA will collapse eventually and all SA citizens will pay the price and we will become like Haiti.

I think we do notice crime but the way crime affects us is different. It is almost as if crime becomes part of our daily life and the effect is just less and less. It is actually worrying for me personally because it confirms an earlier question where the asker asked if we as South African care.

I think they are accustomed to it or have their heads in the sand.Where the attitude becomes offensive is when they try and portray South Africa to foreigners as "safe." The Tourist Industry is the worst offender but it seems that many South Africans are taking the ANC lead and lying about everything.
How do you know when an ANC politician is lying?
When his lips move.

Yes unfortunately it is a reality we live with and need to deal with everyday - i think there is very few in SA who has not in some way being harmed or affected by crime and if the punishment is more severe and the death penalty reinstated it might begin to help prevent it
