Centrino actually isn't a processor. It is a "platform" including the processor, chipset, and wireless card. The earliest Centrino used a pentium M processor. The original Pentium M was based on the Pentium III. To answer your question, yes, a Centrino platform is better than a platform that uses the Pentium III.

The Centrino platform uses several processor types. Early Centrino used Pentium M (Dothan core then later Yonah). Newer Centrino uses Core Solo, Core Duo or the Core2 Duo. ALL the processors in the Centrino platform are better than Pentium 3.

i think you mean Celeron. Centrino is Intel's way of actually getting the chip into laptops. I find that pentium's have a larger cache for information and process, and celerons tend to run a lot hotter as well. If you have the money, def go for the pentium chips
