Well, she said to put it on right away, then dont put anything on it. She also said that if I am going to wrap it up to do so as thinnly as possible. (I am talking about a cut that goes 2/3 the way across my daughters palm. It has stitches)

Why no more neosporin?

The baby seems to prefer having a bandage on it, so I was wrapping gauze around her hand and changing it twice a day (or when it got filthy). I would wash her hand with water and baby soap. Then I would squeeze some neosporin on and wrap the gauze around 4 times or so (and tape it on her wrist)

The nurse said to wash it with soap and water, and that it was okay to wrap it thinnly, but no more neosporin. You only put that on when you first get the cut.

I am a hospital nurse and we usually do not put neosporin on a cut, but we do wrap them. I about cut my finger off 2 yrs ago and they told me to remove the dressing the next day which I did. It healed up so fast I couldnt believe it.
I am not sure why no antibiotic ointment. Call the ER and ask them. They will tell you.

From what you said, I dont think she meant no more neosporin. For a cut, you should first wash the wound very clean then apply neosporin on it then put a bandage on top (make sure you wash your hands before and after the process, too). She's right saying that dont wrap it up too much, use a thin bandage. The reason is if you completely block the wound, you may create an anaerobic environment (no oxygen at all) and may favor the growth of some bacteria.
The cut should heal by itself in a couple days. If after 1 week and the cut is still hurting, please see a physician for further evaluation.

It said on the neosporin tube only for minor cuts. That's the key word minor. If your daughter required stitches, then she had a deep cut on her hand. Therefore, neosporin isn't recommended for treatment for deep cuts.
It actually delays the healing process if used on deep cuts. If you wrap the dressing too tightly, you're not letting the cut heal properly. Instead you'll be causing bacteria to form and it will prolong the healing process. It needs some air to help harden and heal the wound which is why they ask you to dress her wound as thinly as possible.
Honestly, neosporin isn't recommend for young children under the age of 2 unless okay'd by a doctor due to sensitivity of the infant's skin.
Also, you have to be careful if she scratches her eye with the neosporian on her hand, it can cause an irritation.
Just talk to your doctor, please.

Yes, neosporin is one of the medications which can safely be used on dogs. There are some medications that can be used on people and animals (neosporin, pepto bismol, etc) , but it's important to check which before medicating your pet. Neosporin isn't OK to use on cats, but it's just fine for a dog. It's just a general disinfectant, not going to hurt anything.

i think what she meant was dont put any kind of creams or ointments on, then mashing it with some type of bandage. If you are going tp put anything on, leave the wound open for air to get to it and make the healing process a little quicker

I hear you aren't supposed to use it on very deep cuts. Maybe it is because of the anesthetic?
