I confess feeling angry and jealous when others say "I'm grateful to my significant other for helping and supporting me all along the way". I'm single and I feel cheated.

Definitely not. In my master's program, I would say that at most one student in ten was seriously attached (married or living with someone). In my doctoral program, only one of the six students in my cohort was married (and the husband was anything but supportive; the relationship didn't outlast grad school). That ratio was probably reversed for the class before me, but it does tell you that not everyone has a significant other.

I wouldn't say that "most" have a significant other, but it does help. I'm sorry that you feel left out or cheated; I know when I was doing my graduate studies that I was really thankful that I was already married.

That was for 2 reasons:
First, I was way too busy to be able to be out there trying to meet women,

And second, my field is applied linguistics, and I remember thinking to myself "I am about to cross an academic boundary line, and once I do, if I weren't' married, I might never get laid again." If you saw my professors you would understand.

Please remember this, your colleagues are at least jealous of you for your ability to study in your underwear all weekend long without interruption or complaint. It may not seem like much, but it is a luxury many grad students dream of.

being single is NOT a shame.. . Better be alone than in bad company! having a significant other is a blessing to some but there are friends, family to whom you could be grateful for the help and support they've given to you!

Just remeber this there is someone out there who is wonderful and perfect for you it is just all about timing. Like the old saying goes it will happen when you least expect it and it is so true
