On fingers and toes? 1,048,575. Which is 2^20-1.Most people say 20. If you count in binary, you have 20 binary digits. Since counting starts with 0 in binary, the count stops when you have a binary 1111 1111 1111 1111 1111 which when converted to decimal is 1,048,575. Adding 1 to this number causes a carry of a 1 to the 21st place and as for counting markers, unless you have 6 fingers on one hand, you don't have enough markers to tally the count for the 21st binary place. As far as just counting, I can count as high as you and then add one to go even further...

I can count up to 987,654,321,123,456,789, but only if I start at 987,654,321,123,456,788 since I don't have the time to waste.
987 quadrillion, 654 trillion, 321 billion and so on.
