If an innocent man is wrongly convicted of a crime and sent to prison, and then escapes prison and proceeds to find the person who actually committed the crime, thus proving their own innocence...will they be charged with the crime of escaping prison?

Yes, he's still a convicted felon.

He could petition the court of appeals to hear his case but yes he could still be charged with escaping. Whether or not a court would find him guilty after exposing his innocence is a different story.

Typically, yes, but the sentence is often reduced or suspended in this case. That is what happened to my friend. He still got charged with escape, but his 3 year sentence was suspended, so as long as he stayed out of trouble, he was good.

Not only is he guilty of escaping from prison, he can be charged with copyright infringement by the producers of "The Fugitive."

that's the story of the long working t.v. coach "The Fugitive" and the subsequent action picture with Harrison Ford. If he's somewhat shown harmless, then he's released from custody and the detention center smash isn't a controversy.

No, just the time for the crime. Not his fault the courts screwed up. But he will get more charges if he told the police he did not do it, thats a charge for lying to the police.

yes, unfortunately, but i believe special circumstances would apply. unless caught before he proved his innocence.
