When I was young I can remember having these wooden block puzzles. I remember having a cube and a barrel-shaped block. It was basically a block of wood cut in a certain shape but made up of interlocking pieces which you had to put together in a specific way.

Does anyone remember what these type of puzzles were called and if anyone still makes them? If so, where can I find them?

You can still find them, I bought a few recently in a shop like a dollar store.
You can never be sure to find them there, but toy shops that specialize in wooden toys normally stock them.
I have also seen them in touristy kind of shops, specially when you are in an area known for wood.

i cant remember, sorry, but u can get walkthroughs on youtube that also help with those kind of puzzles
