I have been to all the trouble-shooting sites, but this problem cannot be remedied there, as I took all their suggestions, and none of them worked.
My fabric is not moving. The fabric does not feed. The needle goes up and down, but will not stitch forward or in reverse? Any suggestions before I take my Singer to the shop?

Don't take it to the shop they will charge you to "fix" it. If it is that new, get your paper work and take it back and get a new one or a refund..

It sounds like your feed dogs are either not moving or clogged.

Here is what I would do. First you know where the feed dogs are correct...if you don't then keep reading. The feed dogs are the little rough things that move front to back and are underneath the presser foot. So, run your machine and see if they move, if they don't move then no fabric can feed through.

If they are moving then maybe they are too clogged with lint to be effective. I would grab a new toothbrush and use it just for this purpose...take off the presser foot like you were going to change it out...I would also take off the needle as well. Then I would take a vacuum cleaner and as I used the tooth brush on the feed dogs I would suction away the lint. You should clean your sewing machine after every project (especially big ones) just like you should change your needle about every 20 or 30 sewing hours. Hopefully that will clean out the feed dogs and help you get back to sewing.

By the way, all sewing machines should be tuned up every year especially if you use it alot. And most sewing machines need to be oiled occasionally to help keeping it running well. You can ask your current repair shop how often they recommend.

Could be any of several things;

1. Maybe the feed dogs are in the down position, so that you would be able to work free-motion. Find that section of the manual and make sure they are engaged.

2. Your bobbin may be threaded wrong, causing the threads to knot so that the fabric can't advance. Take the bobbin out of the case and re-load it so that the thread is tailing off into your left hand. Get it all the way down into the slot. Make sure there are no stray threads down there before you pop it back into the hook race.

3. The top thread may be caught in the slot on top of the spool. If so, turn the spool upside down.

4. The machine may be threaded incorrectly so it keeps tying up in knots. Even an experienced person can make a mistake like this, on a new machine.

If you have the book that came with the machine, check it.
If not, see if there is one on line.
Check that your presser foot is down, on tight, etc.
check the feed dogs are not obstructed.
check you haven't hit a button or switch in error, like the buttonhole option, for example.
If that doesn't work, see if Singer had a help line.
Good luck.

did your machine work when you used a different fabric?
Sometimes you have to use a special foot for certain fabrics, and, remember to put the foot down on the fabric.

make sure your machine isn't set to the darning option, which lowers the feed dogs so you can move the fabric yourself.
