Alcohol causes many deaths, much cost to society for medical expenses, is responsible for a lot of rage-related activities --- fights, family physical abuse, road-rage, and etc.and many non-drinkers are injured or killed in car wrecks caused by drinkers.
Truly, the only people who "need" alcohol are alcoholics, and ironically they are the very people who should not have it.
We have found out, however, that to outlaw alcohol in this country is to turn much of the society over to the ministrations of organized crime. Overall, society would probably be better with alcohol, and use the taxes to deal with alcohol-causing ill effects in society.

There are two answers to this question.
1. If alcohol did not exist in the first place then yes it would be a better place. There would be so many people still alive if it had not been for alcohol. examples: drunk driving, murder, alcohol poisoning, women who are pregnant drinking.
2. If alcohol was banned the world would be SO much worse.
A good example of this is 1930's prohibition where countless people were killed over alcohol from mafia shootings and so forth. If it were banned again this would Inevitably happen again because someone is going to find alcohol no matter what.
So the answer can be either yes or no depending upon whether it exists or not.

Hmmmm..... thats an interesting question. The influence of alcohol leads to some domestic and child abuse. It also changes the way you think and act, so you do stupid things like drink driving and playing on the railways. However, the society has gotten used to having alcohol. In the time near the great depression, alcohol was banned and the society turned to illegal ways, like smuggling and homebrews. They also drank many posionous substances like petrol and anti-freeze stuff they used on their cars.
I think that if everyone drank in moderation these problems would be solved and the society would be sensible. However, people don't drink in moderation so all these problems crop up. Many people die while they are under the influence of alcohol. I believe everyone should drink in moderation.

It isn't the alcohol, it's the addiction. The addiction is caused in some by brain chemical imbalances because of genetics, in most by the desire to escape something. Why don't you think about how to help people stop trying to escape?

It would probably function better without.
But I think its a crime against liberty to decide for someone else completely.
So even though I think people are less productive and even damaging to societies progress , I still support their right to choose if they want to.

Historically the only thing that Prohibition ever did in the USA was to give organized crime the first real foothold it had ever had.

forget the moron's answer. it's bad. alcoholics are not the problem (although they definitely create medical expenses). the problem is binge drinking-that's what causes the accidents.
