It all depends on your medical history, the meds/supplements you are currently taking, and the brand(s) of supplements you choose to take. You should see a nutritionist and educate yourself on the subject before you take anything.

Make sure you learn about each herb first, unless you go to someone very skilled to prescribe herbs to you. I use these sites to check out herbs, their actions and interactions:

I would suggest that you avoid St. Johns Wort or kava. They have side effects that aren't worth their function. I use lots of herbs, even the addition of turmeric in your food can be a powerful medicine against tumors and inflammation.

if you have any medical conditions or are takin gany other prescription drugs, seek professional advice or visit a bookstore with a herbal encyclopedia. it should list what it is used for and possible contraindications.
by themselves, in proper doses, herbs are what mother nature made for us to heal ourselves!!! and all this controversy about herbs being bad, illegal and harmful is complete hogwash, being printed, tested, whatever by pharmaceutical companies cuz they dont want you to find out that the little pink pills they push on you are originally derived from something in nature, then altered to give you the wonderful array of side effects found common in conventional medicine.

Generally, yes. You should do some research, even see a holistic practitioner to oversee your herbal use (make sure you're using the right thing for the right reason, and to avoid interactions).
I take Ginseng on "bad days" coz it gives me a little boost, and I take Echinacea Root when I am feeling sick. Yerba Mate I haven't tried yet, because it's so darn expensive, but I want to.

Cinnamon helps with sugar control.
I use Oregano Oil whenever I catch a cold. Six drops ,four times a day. V8 juice helps the flavor.
The claim is that it kills bacteria and viruses.
Vics Vapor Rub cures a lot of skin problems. Toe nail fungus , for one.

YES! My doc puts me on supplements rather than drugs and I finally am recovering from a mess of health problems caused by the drugs.
Just do your research, read a lot, talk to others, talk to herbalists or professionals at herb shops...
GOOD LUCK! :)
