I have read about studies on just this topic. High school valedictorians were compared to the public at large for happiness in life as well as material success.
Surprisingly, being valedictorian made absolutely no difference in your chances for happiness or success.

Not necessarily but most of the time smart people do get ahead in life. Moral values, discipline and good behaviour should be taught by parents and they should start from birth. You wouldn't like it if teachers start disciplining your kids. No wonder kids are so messed up.

Not essentially. Moral values matter very much. This, I feel must be taught at home itself first and then extended to schools. The parents must set an example for the child and so the Teacher to the taught.

No. DEFINITELY NOT.
In most cases these people are the ones who go on to rebel or just get fed up of it or something like that.
More so if it was caused by strict parents. Not many people keep it up. High school is NOTHING like the real world.
Maybe ask about College or Uni grades, that is a whole different question, but High School is meaningless in the grand scheme of things.
(keep in mind this is just my opinion but I have observed this time and time again and I know lots of other people see it this way too)

Yes it is more important today to imbibe the moral values and Indian culture to all students right from the beginning of the school. Students should be less stressed for examinations and compititions and relaxed so that they develop their intellect and behaviour. They should also learn respecting elders as in earlier Indian Society.

High marks will never be a yardstick for the success. For a successful life you must be a good human being, and a good human being possesses always the high moral, honesty, discipline, etc. along with a goal to acieve in life with ones hard work, constant efforts.

no.
I used to be obsessed with getting good grades and the pats on the back from teachers / ppl who value a student that can follow rules rather than a person who can think for themselves.
I thought being smart and having good grades would get me set for life, but that didn't work. I practically failed outta college ( I got back in after a semester of doing work at a community college). I could not handle the different demands and my desire to get good grades and make money ( rather than learn and get experience) blinded me.
I wish I had learned to think for myself and determine what I'm good at rather than spread myself thin trying to do everything. Maybe I was attention starved. I've had days when I just wish someone would pat me on the head and give me a hug/kiss.
Moral values scare me because ppl seem to think morals means a steadfastness to tradition despite evidence that its not working ( ex: banning gay marriage because its not "moral", what the devil business do I have telling someone else who to love and whom to marry!?). I hear so many right winged Christians give bull about "moral values". I'd rather teach my children how to get along with ppl who are different from them, how to love and respect themselves and their bodies and how to function as a decent member of society.
but that's my rant for today!
=D

see, it isn't necessary for all students who get good marks are the king or queen of moral values. Some students do have good values, they respect their elders, poors, etc, wheeras, the whole world consists of many students who think they are just brilliant, no one can beat me with good marks, this makes these children overconfident and they tend to forget their values which were given to them in the childhood!

moral values, moral disciplines should be taught at home,by parents, NOT BY TV, VIDEO games, and computers, not only at school.
school teachers aren't babysitters. some parents might think that as soon their kids at school, they can toss off their responsibilites on teachers. this is wrong
that problem with today education system
