What's up my peeps!!! Hey, just kidding, I don't really talk like that...anyway, do people in general have motivation to do things well? Is it out of fear? Is it out of love? Out of pride? I have no motivation for doing the things I do anymore, so I'm looking to borrow some of YOURS. So, PLEASE tell me, why do you do the things you do? Do you just enjoy them, or do you have to force yourself through motivation to do them...or do you not even question it, and just do things because they were given to you to do??

Doing anything well is a matter of pride for me. I want to do the best job I can given the constraints that may be attached to the job. Some of the things I have done, like fixing leaking irrigation pipes, does not have to look pretty but they have to not leak.
Other projects like my tile in the master shower has to look as good as I can make it. I want any mistakes to be noticeable only to me.
AS some else said, do it right the first time. It is a lot easier and a lot less costly.

Why do a good job?
Four things come to mind.
1. The pleasure of performing a job well.
2. The satisfaction of owning the well done job.
3. The monies paid to me for the job well done
4. The reputation that follows of being good in my job.
Dont forget that there is a quick turnaround to this ideal worker bee paradigm so you must ask as well,
Why would a usually good worker progressively do a bad job?
Eureka ! Now you got the real question, the only one that matters.
Why do a bad job?
Four things come to mind
1. The physical condition of the job site is either unsafe or unsuitable
2. There is too much volume of work expected for one singular employee
3. The employee/automaton/robot will always finish his work day exhausted, unfinished and unable to find satisfaction in the doing the job he is doing.
4. The pay is all that is keeping him attached to the company. He will leave in a heartbeat if he finds something better.

My motivation is pride, I believe I am better than many people, and look for tasks to prove this belief. I do things few other people could do. It's not a great way to find peace and satisfaction in life tho, because pride forces me to keep proving myself.

The root of all motivation comes from within homey, I do talk that way. It may seem like external forces do the motivating sometimes, the real reasons for action are internal.
Peace out my nizzle.

Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.
Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.
Action will not always bring happiness, but there is no happiness without action.

The greatest motivators sit inside us... our ego (desire as well as pride) and values...... all other external motivators have to touch one of these two to move us. If your values have so changed that you believe it is of no use doing something, then it is rather difficult for any external motivators to override except if the pride can be dented.

Out of concern, and realizing that we all share the choice of responding as well as is in our capacity to do what is right from what is wrong. Realizing this, allows me, then to practice what I feel may be the best attribute in my self, thus openly offering it to others.
It offers in return a feeling of satisfaction.
Going against this perfectly natural motivation takes something very valuable out of me. And helps absolutely no one!

My motivation for doing things well is out of fear, I am very afraid of displeasing my parents and my family. I never really do well for myself - just for other people honestly.

I can walk away from a dissatisfied boss, customer, friend or anyone else. But I can't walk away from me. I have to sleep with myself every night. I have to look myself in the face every morning and night. If I am dissatisfied with me then my life would really suck. I don't tolerate halfassed work from others I certainly can't accept it from myself.
