Do banks and the like keep them stored in a huge warehouse for years on end?

I understand they house them in old RAF hangers.

I got a copy of a cheque I had written (over a
dispute) after five years. Just ask your bank.

Even now in almost all the banks they are issuing cheques and the transaction is not fully withdrawn. For business purpose this will go on for many years. Yours Vrvrao

For the couple of people that still use that obsolete payment form ,
They are mostly returned with the statements to their issuers .
Some opt not to get them back , and they are trashed .
The people or business who wrote them , may store them , but the bank does not .

And since the IRS only goes back 3 years now ,
Keeping them longer than that seems pointless .
