From what I have seen and heard in the last 20 years, I would have to say, yes.

Having gone to the MIddle East to work some years back, and arriving there with what seems to be the standard fear of Arabs inculcated in the Australian psyche, I very very soon discovered that they are the most calm and peaceful and pleasant of people.

You cannot talk about Islam unless you specifically discuss which sub-group of Muslims you are discussing. The Saudis are the Scottish Presbyterians of Arabia. Stern. Uptight. Very uptight. The Omanis are how Australians think they are. Relaxed. Considerate. Thoughtful. Fun. The Suffis (sic) just one esoteric offshoot we are familiar with. There are hundreds of variations of Islamic practices, & belief.

And to the person who says they don't reject extremism - go live there - get some knowledge - don't accept the endless & brainless media cliches, use your own brain.

It is the same as lumping the recent Irish extremist fighters or Basque seperationists with the rest of Christianity.

Sure, there are some angry Arabs right now. Funny that. If the Poms And the Yanks had spent the last 80 years here, telling you what to do and when, and which parts of the country were yours, you might well be cranky too.

My Omani optician, a professor of optics at the Muscat university, was (and I hope still is) what the Catholic faith would describe as a saint. An aura of holiness surrounded him, and one felt stangely calm in his presence.

A mile in the other persons moccasins . . . . .

Islam, Judaism, Christianity=One God! We all worship the same Being. All three religions come from the same "base". PEOPLE have made the "rules" and people "break the rules". Good and evil are necessary to one another in order to define our understanding of them.

Only one "law" should exist in any religion: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you/love your neighbor as yourself".

No, it's not. There is a huge difference between those who misinterpret a religion to fit their own twisted beliefs. True Islam does not advocate violence.

Based on your logic, one can conclude that Chrsitianity is evil based on the millions of people who were killed during the crusades ( most of whom were Muslims).

what was being said in that time to primitive people of the time should had been in balance with the level of their understanding. in this time it's the stupidity of Muslims if they can't interpret the teachings of Islam to a more modern and sophisticared language that suits this higher lever of understanding that people of today possess.

All Religions are good, and any can be evil. Islam is no more evil than Christianity. It is fundamentalism and evangelism that are evil, no matter the Religion...

People run around that question all day long. I read some books about it and it is a very bad religion, built on hate and submissiveness of women. No nice talking can make that different. Surely, not all Muslims are bad, they are just born into the religion, like we into Christianity or something else. But no other religion teaches hate and killing.

from what I understand and have read about Islam it is inherently evil, as Mohammad said convert or die is not a very good stance to take if you want to impress your goodness, as I have read the bible through several times and no where did I see any thing from god or Jesus that said to kill or convert,
