We are building a maze for Halloween in our backyard. We've decided to use painter's plastic sheeting as walls since it's only temporary, but tall. But we are having trouble coming up with a suitable way to support them. We originally thought anchoring pvc pipes into the lawn and taping them to the sheeting would work, but it has turned out to be unsuccessful and costly. Any ideas? Some kind of tall stakes? They need to be at least 6ft tall in ground and cost effective. Help!! Thanks!

Sure, purchase some 2x2 8' long and cut one end like a stake. drive in a foot into the ground and use string to anchor it like a tent. Then place another 8' away and anchor it in the oppisite direction from the first and tie string between them, drill a small hole at the top to run the string through. Just like making a clothes line. You can do this in any shape then drape the plastic over the string.
We build one every year like this.

Hello...We saw something similar at an Art Festival this summer that we too are trying to duplicate. This company used bamboo poles and ran tie straps through the black plastic sheeting. The poles were ~ 6 ft tall.

Unfortunately we are having a problem finding the bamboo at this time of the year without paying a fortune for shipping so we will probably go to a Home Improvement store and cut some 6 ft 1" - 1 1/2" wide poles out of wood.

Good luck!

Certainly there are many options; IE Bamboo, etc. but cost will always be an issue as well as durability.

One thing to consider would be something you can give back; sell; re-use.

You might check with any local home builders for dumpster scavanging.

Whatever you use should also be SAFE for participants; and you might consider modifying the GAME.

Similar in context to Pin the tail on the donkey; think about blindfolds; barriers; ropes as guides; a signal of some sort to allow exit and/or wrong turns. Just a thought.

I work with that painters plastic allot and have found that it is best to support the top with rope and spring clamps and the bottom with stakes. just look for a couple of trees to tie to. Try to take a look around on trash day, peeps always put out old garden tools and boards.

try going by building sites and looking in their dumpsters for long rigid stuff to use. also suggest using step ladders (borrrow from neighbors) and rope or cord
