I was going to buy the Kenmore calypso elite but have read the reviews and realized it's a terrible machine. Pretty but useless. I'm wondering what else to consider for a long life and good service in washer and dryer. Thanks.

I'm 65 and my aunt is 90. We both have used Maytag's forever. Hers is well over 30 yrs old and mine is about 20 yrs and we have never had a problem I would never buy a front loader, they leak. Top loader only.

I bought a Maytag washer & was disapointed with it. It did not have a spray rinse after the deep rinse like my old washer did. Also I can't leave the lid open when it washes so when it gets to the rinse cycle it would stop running and I could catch the rinse cucle. Now I have to leave the lid closed & miss the rinse cycle.

Depends on things like if you want to conserve water and energy. Front loaders are good for conserving water. Read the energy saver label. But if you need a washer for normal washing try GE. My mom has had hers since 1991. Don't spend money on frills you won't use or because its cute.

My boyfriend and I love our LG Tromm 5-cycle washer and matching dryer. It works great and the brand had the best reviews out of all the brands on ConsumerReports.com.
