For the record, Nursery Water contains the amount of fluoride shown to be be beneficial in reducing tooth decay. You should not use/consult you doc before using this water along with another product containing fluoride. I know that isn't related to your question, but I thought I'd throw that in.

You should never give a baby nursery water, the American Dental Association has repeatedly warned against the use of fluoridated water for infants, and yet people still keep buying this "nursery water".

Generally water is a safe treatment for constipation, and the dosage is 1/2 to 1 oz no more than 3 times per day.

BUT with a baby under 6 weeks you need to speak to a physician, constipation can be a sign of a serious underlying problem. Constipation can also indicate the baby is not consuming enough formula/breastmilk and adding water to the mix is only going to make it worse.

With a baby this young PLEASE GO TO A DOCTOR!

For a baby this young I would seriously consider talking withe her doctor before you do this. Generally firm stools at this age is a sign of some kind of food allergy...Either from something you are eating if you are breastfeeding or an ingredient in the formula if you are using that route. My pediatrician only recomended pedialyte if my baby had diareaha other then that it was only breast milk or formula at that age.

I'm not sure what nursery water is but I had this problem with one of my little ones. I was told by out health nurse to put a little brown sugar into her bottle. It worked a treat. only 1/2 - 1 t spoon.

My ped said I could(for constipation), only up to one ounce and like once a day, something real low. It is best to get the ok from a medical professional, and be careful with water and infants.

i wouldnt recommend giving the baby water because it will cause her to fill up on water and she will not get all the nutrients that she needs from the formula. you could try 1 tablespoon of the dark karo syrup mixed into 2-3 ounces of formula..this is what my pediatrician told me to do with my daughter. i would advise you to check with the dr though to make sure he agrees with it before you do it because he may have a different suggestion. best of luck!

there is water in formula already. it is normal for it to be a little hard or soft, but if stool is painful to pass and very dry and hard its too much iron. talk to doc.

I was told absolutely NOT. at 3 weeks old her diaphram is equipped to handle milk and water is much thinner. The baby could reflux and choke.

Yes but you should ALWAYS check with her doctor. My daughter is 3 weeks old and her pediatrician just had us start giving her 2 oz a day for constipation. But you should always discuss it with her dr before you try anything new. It does work as well.

Good luck to you!

No, mix in a tablespoon of Caro/Karo syrup or feed her an ounce of Prune juice. Works wonders.

BTW this was advice given to us by our doctor.
